GameMastered is a personal achievement tracker for Steam. This page explains what we keep about you, why, for how long, who else is involved, and how to take your data with you or delete it. It is run by Yousef Hesham. Questions go to [email protected].
The short version
- We only know your Steam ID and the games and achievements we import for you: your library the first time you sign in, and after that what you ask us to refresh.
- We never see your Steam password. You sign in on Steam’s own page.
- No ads, no tracking cookies, and we don’t sell or share your data. We count page visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies.
- Your profile is public: anyone can see it, including your library and progress, and it can show up in search engines like Google. Your hunt plans are never shown there.
- You can download everything or delete your account at any time.
What we store and why
Your Steam account
Your Steam ID (the long public number Steam gives every account), when your GameMastered account was created, and when you last signed in or imported (your “last seen” date). We need the Steam ID to know which data is yours. We also save your Steam display name and a link to your Steam profile picture, so your profile shows the same name and picture as on Steam, your Steam custom URL name if you have one (for your public profile’s address), and whether Steam reports your profile or game details as private. They are refreshed each time you sign in or import your library.
Your Steam games and achievements
The first time you sign in we import your whole library by ourselves. After that, when you come back 6 hours or more after we last read your library, we read it again and import the games you played since and any new ones; you can also refresh whenever you like. We save the list of games you own (name, playtime and when you last played) and, for each game we import, its achievements: which you have unlocked and when, plus how rare each one is among all Steam players. This is what the app shows you: your library, progress, rarity, statistics and suggestions. If an import fails we keep a short error note so we can tell you what went wrong.
Things you create here
Your profile choices (banner and favourite games), which games you are hunting or have set aside, and your hunt plan checklists. These exist only because you made them.
History we keep for you
Records of XP you earned, badges, games you completed, the days you unlocked achievements and your activity timeline. These are kept so your progress and history don’t change when Steam data changes later.
If you support GameMastered
Support goes through Patreon. When you connect Patreon, we keep your Patreon account ID, your Patreon name and when you connected, and for each payment Patreon tells us about, the amount, currency, date and Patreon’s ID for it. We use them to work out your supporter perks. Patreon doesn’t send us your card details, and we don’t keep your email. If someone supports on Patreon without connecting, we keep their Patreon name and payments so they can be linked to their account later.
Being a supporter is public: the SUPPORTER tag and, for early supporters, the Founding star show on your profile and the leaderboard. Amounts are never shown to other players.
If you turn on “Show me on the Thank-you wall”, we keep when you asked and when we approved it. Once approved, the public Thank-you wall shows your Steam name and avatar, the month you started supporting and the Founding star if you have it, never amounts. Turning it off takes you off the wall and deletes that record.
If you vote in “A say in what’s next”, we keep which option you picked and when. Other players only ever see the totals, never who voted for what.
Share links
When you share an achievement or a perfect game, we keep a short link with what it shows and its card style. Anyone with the link can see that card: your Steam name and avatar, the achievement or game, its rarity and the date, even if your profile is private. Deleting your account deletes your links.
Running the service
Your sign-in sessions (we store only a scrambled fingerprint of the session, never the session itself), progress of bulk imports, and a daily count of how many Steam requests your account used, so one account can’t use up the service’s Steam allowance.
A log of your imports from the last 30 days: when each one ran, which game, whether it worked and, if not, the kind of error. It lets us find out why an import fails.
The person who runs GameMastered can see the import log, Steam request counts, Steam names and support payments on a private admin page, along with totals such as how many players were active in the last 7 or 30 days. Other players never see them.
We do not store your IP address, email address, real name, card or bank details, Steam friends, or a copy of your Steam profile picture (only the link to it on Steam’s servers).
Your public profile
Your GameMastered profile has a public address that anyone can open, signed in or not: gamemastered.com/u/ followed by your Steam custom URL name, or your Steam ID if you don’t have one. It shows your Steam name and picture, level and XP, badges, rarest unlocks, favourite games, statistics from the games you imported (including how many unlocks you have per rarity tier and per month), your 100% Club, the games you are hunting and your focus game, and gamer type. It also lists the games in your Steam library with your progress in each, and each imported game’s achievements with their unlock dates. It never shows your hunt plans (checklists), which games you have set aside, your XP per achievement, your activity, your import history or your data export. Search engines like Google can list it.
If your Steam profile or game details are private, your public profile shows only your Steam name, picture and address, and search engines are asked not to list it, until a later import works again. Deleting your account removes it.
Public profiles also appear on the leaderboard (gamemastered.com/leaderboard), which anyone can open. It ranks players by XP, perfect games and rarest unlocks, and shows your Steam name and picture, level, those totals, your rarest unlock and how long ago you last imported. While your Steam profile or game details are private, you are left off it.
To keep the leaderboard fair, each import also notes unusual patterns in that game, such as many achievements unlocked within a minute, a very rare achievement soon after starting, or most of a game with little recorded playtime. Only the person who runs GameMastered sees these notes, and a person, never the system, decides what happens. They can leave you off the leaderboard (your profile then shows “Excluded from leaderboard”), hide your public profile, or block the account from signing in. Each decision is logged with its time. To appeal, email [email protected]. Deleting your account removes the notes, decisions and log entries about you.
When we contact Steam
We only read Steam data when you ask: when you sign in (your Steam name and profile picture) or press an import button. There is no background syncing. We use Valve’s official Steam Web API, which can only read what your Steam privacy settings make public.
How long we keep it
- Your account and everything above: until you delete your account. Deleting it removes all of it from our database at once.
- Sign-in sessions: 7 days, or until you sign out. Expired sessions are cleared from the database the next time anyone signs in.
- A sign-in in progress: 10 minutes.
- Backups: a copy of the database is backed up daily and backups are kept for 30 days, on our server and in Google Drive. After you delete your account, your data can remain in backups until they expire, 30 days later.
- Daily Steam request counts: kept until you delete your account.
- Patreon connection and payments: kept until you delete your account (Patreon keeps its own record of your payment). Disconnecting Patreon removes the connection.
- Import log: 30 days.
- Server system logs: kept until storage limits remove the oldest entries. GameMastered writes no IP addresses or Steam IDs to them.
- Cloudflare’s logs: kept under Cloudflare’s own privacy policy.
We don’t delete inactive accounts automatically. Your data is kept until you delete your account, and backups expire 30 days after that.
Where your data is kept
In New York, in the United States, on a server we run there. Daily backups are kept on that server and in a private Google Drive folder, on Google’s servers.
Who else is involved
- Valve (Steam). You sign in on Steam’s page, and our server asks the Steam Web API for your games and achievements using your Steam ID. Game artwork, achievement icons and your profile picture load in your browser directly from Steam’s image servers, so Steam sees your IP address and that the request came from GameMastered.
- Cloudflare. All traffic to GameMastered passes through Cloudflare, which protects and delivers the site. Cloudflare handles your IP address and the pages you request. We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views and visits without cookies and without following you to other sites.
- Google. Stores our daily database backups in a private Google Drive folder.
- Patreon. If you support GameMastered, Patreon takes your payment under its own privacy policy and sends us the details listed above.
We use no advertising, social media or tracking services, no analytics besides Cloudflare Web Analytics, and our fonts are served from our own server.
Cookies
We use five cookies and no other browser storage.
| Cookie | What it does | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
gm_session | Keeps you signed in. Needed for the app to work. | 7 days |
gm_steam_state | Protects the Steam sign-in step. Needed to sign in. | 10 minutes |
gm_patreon_state | Protects the Connect Patreon step. Only set when you connect. | 10 minutes |
gm_sidebar | Remembers that you collapsed the sidebar. Only set when you do. | 1 year |
gm_announcement | Remembers which announcement you closed, so it stays closed. Only set when you close one. | 30 days |
None of them track you or are shared with anyone, so we don’t show a cookie banner.
Your choices
- Download your data as a file from Account → Your data.
- Delete your account from Account → Delete account. It takes effect immediately and signs you out. It doesn’t affect your Steam account.
- Stop new imports by not importing, or by making your Steam game details private in Steam privacy settings.
- Hide your public profile by making your Steam profile or game details private; after your next sign-in or import it shows only your name, picture and address, and you leave the leaderboard. Deleting your account removes it completely.
- Ask us to correct or explain anything we hold by writing to [email protected].
Minimum age
You must be 16 or older to use GameMastered. We don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Changes
If we change this policy we’ll update the “Last updated” date. Any significant change will be noted at the top of this page.
